We worked out how to take the train from Schiphol to Amsterdam, and navigated our way to our hotel. We dropped our bags in the luggage room and then started our adventure around Amsterdam. First we went to the nine streets which is the oldest part of Amsterdam. We walked along many canals, found Anne Franks house, couldn't deal with the huge queue so had a coffee instead.
We then took a tram to the Rijksmuseum which was quite impressive. They are currently renovating it so only one wing was open. Again a queue but as I was keen to see the Rembrandts we endured this one. Half an hour later after standing in the rain we were inside. It was great - we worked out that the wait was not for the entry but for the security.
Our hotel was called Hotel Nova. It's abojut fifteen minutes walk from Central Station, and very comfortable for a reasonable price. Amsterdam is packed with history and charm. On top of all that, it's a vibrant exciting city. We love it.
